When the monitor is used with a games console, e.g. the Sony PlayStation 3, which we used in our tests, an identically good picture to that of the PC is produced, regardless of whether the VX2435w is connected via digital or analogue connection. We observed no streaks and no corona effect.
The interpolation behaviour can be adjusted in the OSD of the VX2435wm. Te user can choose from 1:1, 4:3 (justified), 16:9 and full screen. In the higher resolutions, the interpolated image quality is very good, but the quality decreases clearly at resolutions under 1.280 x 900.
The ViewSonic VX2435wm is capable of supporting a wide range of resolutions by itself: 1.920 x 1.200, 1.920 x 1.080, 1.650 x 1.050, 1.600 x 1.200, 1.600 x 900, 1.440 x 900, 1.440 x 576, 1.400 x 1.050, 1.280 x 1.024, 1.280 x 960, 1.280 x 720 etc. Before now, we have never tested a monitor that supports such a large number of resolutions by itself.

DVD and Video
With its resolution and the frequencies it supports, the ViewSonic VX2435wm should really be able to display 1080p in 50 and 60 Hz. However, the HDMI port only reports support of up to 1080i to the device that is connected. We forced the monitor to display 1080p with the PS3 and lo and behold, the VX2435wm reproduces the 1080p without a problem in 50 and 60 Hz. Thus, 1080p is possible, but the player device must allow the user to enforce 1080p, which is rare.

Unfortunately, PAL image signals transmitted via the analogue video inputs are not reproduced in the correct page format. This restricts the monitor’s potential as a multimedia model considerably. However, there are no such problems with digital playback or NTSC standard.
